Physical Education & Health

This isn’t your parents’ phys-ed and health class.

You won’t find out-of-touch lectures. No endless dodgeball games or forced rope climbs. And our uniforms are pretty awesome, too.

At CA, our comprehensive physical education and health program isn’t about being eliminated or feeling embarrassed. It’s about empowering you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to take control of your own lifelong health and holistic wellness journey.

Our three-year tiered physical education program is designed to meet the specific needs of your growing body—and to grow alongside you. Through a wide range of athletic offerings—think leisure activities, team sports, and fitness pursuits—you’ll improve your coordination, strength, endurance, and flexibility. And experience ample character and confidence-building moments as you learn the important arts of collaboration, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

In sixth grade, you’ll concentrate on learning the basic skills, rules, and regulations of wide variety of sports. In seventh, you’ll build on those skills to introduce more advanced techniques (hello, improved speed and foot agility). And in eighth, you’ll put it all together in competitive games where it’s not about winning or losing, but about strategy, team dynamics, and cooperative growth. And you’ll do it all our state-of-the-art athletic facilities with expert, personalized guidance from our encouraging faculty.

Did we mention our offerings are diverse? We mean it. From pickleball to disc golf, floor hockey to football, weight-training to agility cardio, and everything in between, you’re sure to find something that sparks your fitness inspiration and gets you excited about maintaining an active lifestyle for the long haul.

Our holistic health curriculum is multi-dimensional, tackling a range of timely topics. Through hands-on, personally relevant projects, you’ll explore human development, personal fitness, nutrition, personal care, anatomy, and disease prevention. And we won’t shy away from hard questions that could be looming large in your life, in your community. Questions like: How do gender and society influence the way we view ourselves? Or, how do social and cultural messages about food influence our eating choices? Or, what is the real risk of vaping and how do I talk to my friends about it?

In the end, you’ll be well-prepared to practice healthy behaviors and avoid health risks. To access and interpret important health information. To analyze a variety of environmental and social factors that influence your health, your family’s health, and your community’s health. And to harness it all in the service of healthy judgements and good choices.

In short: a stronger, healthier, smarter, and savvier you awaits.
